Some newspapers are claiming over the weekend that new iPad applications could revive the declining publishing industry. Althought the Financial Times have acknowledged that it is going to be a frantic couple of months as publishers find their feet with the new technology, most outlets have claimed this as a positive step forward for traditional newspapers and magazines.
It seems most of the old media are looking at the iPad as an indication of things to come. They are hoping the iPad will bring them the change they need to incorporate their old business models into the new age of the internet.
It appears there is some hope for newspapers and magazines on the new medium. Initial downloads of the GQ App is expected to be just over $150,000 a month. The Australian has sold out of its advertising on its app for the first 3 months.
One thing is certain, if magazines are to change, they are going to have to make sure they product content people want to buy.
